Here’s a list of Iconic football stars, who retired from professional football to become managers to teams and have so far, made a huge name for themselves in recent times. In no particular order, they are:
The Ex Manchester United Player took the managerial role of his parent club in one of the most difficult times for the United side as an Interim Manager. He didn’t stay too long in the position, but he immediately became the assistant manager to Louis Van Gaal. Giggs left United to take the coaching role at Wales, since 2018 Giggs has been very well as a coach with the National team.
2. Clarence Seedorf
Seedorf started his managerial role in Brazil and he had a relative success, in his final year in Brazil as a manager, he won two titles, he also took on a new challenge as the AC Milan manager after Massimiliano Allegri got sacked by the board, he also coached the spanish DePortivo La Cruna and also the Cameroon National team before he went on a sabbatical.
3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
The Ex Manchester United legend and iconic player took over the United team from Jose Mourinho from 2019 and till date, he has transformed the struggling squad and led them to their first top 4 finish in recent years. Ole has indeed proven that he deserved the position as the manager with hopes to earn a title, if all of his demands for transfers are met.
4. Frank Lampard
The Chelsea Legend and present manager has truly done an amazing job with the London side. He started with a barely average Chelsea side with no depth in the team, he struggled to keep them in the top 4 position despite the growing squad, he also led his team to the FA Cup finals, amongst other competitions played. Indeed he has shaped the team to his taste and would be unbelievable by next season.
5. Zinedine Zidane
The French and Real Madrid legend remains one of the best coaches in the world, he had won the Champions league with the Spanish giants three times at a stretch, he left the team and was later called back to help the fallen team. He built his team back and walked away with the Spanish League title this season. Indeed he has a good eye for the big win as a manager.
6. Gennaro Gattuso
The Italian Legend has been a wonderful coach for the Italian side, Napoli. He led his team to the Champions League quarter-finals before he was knocked out by Barcelona. He also kept his team on the top 5 position in the Italian League Table. He has had an incredible season indeed.
7. Mikel Arteta
The Spanish man started his managing career as an assistant manager to Pep Guardiola in Manchester City. He took over from Unai Emery in Arsenal and has changed the form of the team, he also took the Gunners to the FA Cup final and won against Chelsea. He has definitely been a change to the team.
